More and more British people are choosing to holiday in the UK rather than face the cost of travelling abroad. Last year’s figures showed that most travel agents found people less inclined to travel to the usual popular resorts in Europe but instead wanted to know about UK family holidays as a cheaper alternative.

With the current financial situation a lot of people are finding themselves short of money to spare for luxuries like holidays. Spain and Portugal are traditionally the most popular options for UK holidaymakers, with almost guaranteed sunshine and relaxation combined with cheap shopping and nights out. But with the value of the pound becoming so weak compared to the euro, things are changing fast and in some European cities a pint can cost up to the equivalent of £8.

The changes in the global economy are causing people to look to the UK for alternative destinations. And maybe that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. The UK has a lot to offer to families looking for a short break away, from self catering cottages to theme parks, health spas and full on seaside holiday resorts that are as good as any in Europe.

The whole point of taking a holiday is to get away to somewhere different where you can be yourself. And whether you’re in to extreme sports, walking holidays or just relaxing by the side of a pool you can find these things just as easily in the UK as you can abroad.

Many UK resorts offer a choice of hotels or self catering to save money, and a huge variety of activities whether you’re looking for kids amusements, entertainment, sports, golf or even specialist breaks like dancing or bowling holidays. The only possible downside is the infamous British weather, but most resorts have the choice of indoor entertainment, so there’s really no reason to let it spoil your fun!
