You are thirsty. Choosing a glass, you walk over to the kitchen faucet. When you turn the spigot, fresh, clean, satisfying water comes out. You probably don’t stop to think how blessed you are, and how millions of people around the world cannot do the simple thing you just did.

There is currently a water crisis on our panet; people are dying. Why do we have this crisis when there seems to be water all over the world? Because, hard as it is to believe, just 3% of the world’s water is drinkable. Most of this undrinkable water is salt water from the oceans — and, unfortunately, salt water is unfit for drinking.

As for the drinkable water, a majority of it has been polluted or contaminated; this is due to our industrial waste, and large companies refusing to cease dumping waste into normally safe sources of drinking water.

Most of us in the USA don’t even notice that all of this is going on; in our nation we are blessed with abundant pure drinking water. Going to an appointment at this or that office, we find bottled water there available for us to drink. Usually, when we go to a restaurant, we are served a glass of water as soon as we arrive. We are even able to get a variety of bottled waters from many vending machines.

Water is required for humans to live healthy lives, but because of this water crisis, millions are ill or dying; especially people in developing countries where they are even fighting over water. Babies and old people suffer the highest death rates because of this crisis. The number that shocks me most is that 4,900 babies die every day because of lack of clean drinking water.

It is gradually becoming clear that there is an immediate need for new water treatment plants or new ways to treat sewage water. And these are the new water machines that are genuinely needed.

For our world today, this is a very tall order. Treatment plants can take the salt out of saltwater, as well as a new generation of machines that can make water out of the air.

Many believe the crisis is becoming worse; consequently, there are many new companies working on technology not even dreamed of as yet. The crisis is becoming worse because our underwater sources in some areas are becoming polluted which makes this water crisis one that could affect the United States as well as other developed countries.

Around 500 gallons of drinkable water can be produced — right out of the air — by a machine now on the market. This style of water machine isn’t portable, but at least this new technology is being developed.

Small, portable water machines such as this will probably be the wave of the future, with ones being located in every home, restaurant, office and business. But at least this crisis is now being recognized. We are hopeful that this realization has not come too late.
