Is America Ready to Change Its Course?
Now that Barack Obama is in the White House, it will be interesting to see whether the renewed interest in the political process will still be alive and well in the hearts of Americans. This election was historic because of President Obama’s African American lineage, but only over time will we know whether that will be enough to foster peoples’ ongoing interest and support.
It would benefit all Americans if that happened, because it’s finally time for us to be unified as one nation. One group that would certainly benefit would be veterans. Many selflessly served their country, and in some cases, they came home to substandard medical care and public derision. That is the reason I created some free patriotic clip art that promotes the idea that we should honor veterans. Using the clip art on blogs, Web sites or print pieces is just one small way that we can honor them. That appreciation could mean the world to veterans who have been disenfranchised.
We need to honor veterans more often than just sending occasional Memorial or Veterans Day vintage patriotic greeting cards. The country’s support of them has to be ongoing. Anyone who has fought for the country has earned it. If we don’t support them; who will?
On the other hand, every American – not just veterans – would benefit from our country having renewed interest in unity. It would be wonderful to see people saluting the American flag when on parade, because they genuinely believe in what the flag stands for. One would hope that love of country will help us unify.
At this moment, it’s up in the air as to whether this unification will come to pass. Some are vehemently opposed to the new administration’s changes. But that’s to be expected. Those checks and balances actually can help keep the process balanced. At least we hope so! We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and wait.
