Don’t Bother Drinking Your Gin and Tonic - Inhale It!
It has often been said that that the majority of things scientists and inventors do with their time is a complete waste. To be honest, I’ve often thought that myself. But the latest invention from wacky food and drink “architects” Bompas & Parr deserves a Nobel Prize if you ask me. The two mad scientists from England have invented the “walk in breathable cocktail” in the heart of London’s fashionable Soho district. The idea is that you can walk into this “bar” which is filled with a massive cloud of alcoholic fumes, and get drunk just by walking around. And direct absorption of the alcohol, apparently, gets you far more drunk than drinking alone.
The whole thing is powered by a commercial scale humidifier, which is connected to a massive bottle of Gin and some tonic water. Humidifiers are usually used in manufacturing plants such as in the printing or tobacco industries where air humidity is crucial. But normally of course you plug them into a supply of plain old water! However these guys had the idea of making an alcoholic steam room where people got inebriated simply by walking around and chatting.
The company that provided the humidifier, JS Humidifiers, are specialists in air conditioners, heaters and the like, and would normally be the place to go for a ceiling fan or a portable air conditioner this summer. It won’t be long before some student somewhere tries this in his bedroom, sticks it on YouTube and then sales of humidifiers will go through the oroof…! And I wonder too how long it is before some trendy wine bar picks up on this novel idea and sets up a ‘walk in cocktail’ room on a permanent basis? Maybe one day you’ll arrive at your favourite watering hole only to find all the seats gone and the bouncers giving out plastic suits at the steamy doorway. I wouldn’t hold my breath for that one!
